Nicaragua 2016
Mark and Sherri Davis, who served as ministers of youth and music at SWBC for over a decade, partnered with Mark Shoemaker of Jesus-Centered Ministries to take a team of 38 to Nicaragua in July of 2016. Highlights of this trip included turbulence over the gulf of Mexico on the flight down that caused the plane to drop several hundred feet, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake (and aftershocks) while staying in Leon, and volcano surfing at Volcano Negro. There was also the “Alabama Gang” - Stacy Luker, Mark Davis, and Andy Black - who sang a capella in the Leon town square, attracting hundreds of people to listen and take in some good ole’ Gospel music. One of our own youth, Braiden Broussard, prayed to receive Christ at a chapel service that week! Through it all, the LORD kept the team safe and provided for every need.
There were 2 separate mission projects that week. One was building a stable shed structure to serve as a sanctuary for the local villagers. The other was just down the road and involved construction work on an orphanage. The group would split up after breakfast and go to these locations, and then return at night together for supper and worship.
